80kg lifters lifting close to 400kg, how much juice does one really need?

  2. Nick Collins

    August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

Also can’t believe he kept missing depth on his first two squats. It’s like he was just an inch or so high accidentally each time, but kept going up in weight. Sometimes people miss depth and it has nothing to do with strength or trying to cut it high, they just miss it by a little. Bc obvi after he was high with 628 and came back to hit 689 that little bit of missed depth wasn’t giving him much of a boost in lbs lmao.

    August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

Haack lifts more than the others in his weight class while being taller and not as filled out for the height which makes it even more impressive.

    August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

Don’t understand how someone like Haack lifts what he lifts 😂. Not to be offensive bc I have a shit load of respect for him, but his muscularity isn’t that far off from mine and I’m 18. He’s 5’10 and I’m 5’10. I actually think I weigh more than him. Ik he competes 181 but dk what his actual training or in comp weight is rn. I believe like 192 or something and I’m 199.9 this morning. I’m right about 12% body fat. He’s got me on his arms tho lmao. But to where this all ties back into is that he’s someone like Russell Orhii who’s 5’6 and 190s which is very thick. Hes taller and lighter, carrying less mass but can bench over 500 with little arch and setup. It just baffles me like Im seeing a magic trick. His squat too! Long femurs and disadvantaged angle when he’s in the hole but yet he’s hit 700lbs. So if you told me someone with my type of body would be totaling 2,000 at my height and weight I would’ve just been confused. Crazy.

This guy is showing the true power of the power lifting high bar squat and all the low bar starting strength gurus are losing their fucking minds over it. He misses depth on his squats until the weight gets heavy enough it drives him that extra cm down. He literally winds up hamstring to calf cause he’s got so much meat and the depth looks questionable until gravity and ridiculous weight literally forces his hip crease below his knees with a pretty straight back. He might blow out one of his knees but if he doesn’t he may really be onto something. Nobody is blowing out their back or hips squatting the way he is. I love the high bar squat.

No one here thinks Haack is natural. But let’s be smarter and realize this guy obviously knows how to train, eat, sleep, and has some of the best outlier genetics. Steroids dont correlate to strength like you believe. John would be the strongest natural lifter if he didn’t do SARMS and whatever else. And now that he juices he is the strongest juiced lifter competing fairly with other juices lifters. Gets tiring seeing all the steroid comments. Without this man’s work ethic, discipline, and outlier genetics you won’t get anywhere near his total no matter if you do stupid cycles of juice doubling his dose and killing yourself.

  35. Powerlifting by Fred

    August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

Although video angles can be deceptive, it doesn’t look to me like he went below parallel even in his third squat, and I agree with other comments here that he’s shooting his knees too far forward. It would help his squat and protect his knees if he learned to flare the knees out, as taught by old timers Mike Bridges, Rickey Dale Crain, Dan Austin, and others. But who can criticize his bench or deadlift?!

The other 83’s can beat Haack’s squat, but they will have a hard time catching up to his deadlift and bench. He’s only 26! I can see him hitting a 400kg pull in the next 2 years.

    • L1feGoesOn

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

@Tre Adams 1910 doesn’t = 1910 in a meet and it was on pound plates afaik

    • Tre Adams

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

@L1feGoesOn you take out that deadlift bar and they would be a lot closer Russ just put up 1910 in the gym and haack hit like exactly 2000 and he’s getting atleast 20-30lbs out of that bar so it’s not like they’re worlds apart

  44. MrKernkraft4000

    August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

Crazy strong, nothing but respect because he destroys my lifts, but my God he;s going to blow a disc with those deadlifts if he keeps going that way. I really do not want to see that happen.

    • Lukas Marten

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

@El Peluca in fact there are studies that Show that powerlifting is a very safe Sport

    • MrKernkraft4000

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

Again, I’m NOT the expert here I just saw what I thought was extreme rounding of the back on the deadlifts and or what I perceived to be. Huge fan of what this guy is doing, crazy strong etc.

    • Matsu

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

@El Peluca statistically speaking, you have more chances to herniate a disc playing golf than doing powerlifting. You also have more chance to herniate a disc sitting on the couch all day and not committing to any physical activity, than doing powerlifting. Powerlifting has an injury rate that is comparable to ballet dancing. I would say that it is a pretty safe sport. But for some odd reasons, people tends to focus more on the possibility of injury in the weightroom. I’ve never heard someone say “naaah not gonna play tennis, what if I blow my Achilles tendon?” yet it is more likely to happen than, say, tearing your biceps doing deadlifts

    • Jayc Bonfils

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

@silatguy He didn’t rush it, that’s how he’s always pulled. It has its merits, I’ve done it on DL day a few times, and felt more explosive off the ground as opposed to when I do the typical 1-minute set-up 😁. Plus there’s less time to doubt yourself. Grip it and rip it!

He should contact the French consulate and become the next man who Hover boards over the English Channel or better yet over the continental United States. If he crashes he can brush off the dirt as he dents the earth. Get back up and go again. Tensile strength like that deserves to and can handle experimental human flight.

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

@silatguy that doesn’t matter, depth by knees traveling forward doesn’t count, only the hip angle

    • SledgehammerEditing

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

@silatguy hmm I am a big fan but honestly I watch it and it’s close

    • Tushar Bharadwaj

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

But did his hip crease go below knees, that’s the question.

His 3rd squat he almost touched his calves

Glad to see the judges actually judging depth for once

Depth is often difficult to judge from the angle provided in these videos.

@Michael Boyd In respected federations they have to go below parallel.

    • Fire Tom

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

@Michael Boyd lol. No dumbass u know nothing

    • Sean Powlesland

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

@Michael Boyd no they don’t, the official rule is that the crease of the hips is below the knee which is actually below parallel

    • Michael Boyd

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

In a powerlifting meet they dont have to be that deep they only have to be parallel

When he hits the pocket, his knees go forward and down instead of the hips coming below the knees. So even though he’s getting deeper, he’s barely breaking parallel.

    • StreamerVideo

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

@bestofmillions You also have to consider that if you’re tall, you probably have longer femurs. That plays a huge roll in how low you can go. Some short people have their hamstrings touch their calves because everything is so compact and stocky. For tall people it’s a completely different story. Also muscle curvature is something to consider.

    • StreamerVideo

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

@M. C. I’m tall with a short torso and long femurs. It will cause your back to tilt forward when you’re descending to the bottom position (otherwise you’ll literally fall back), but you should never let your knees come forward. I have a bad build for squats and yet I’m able to ensure that much.

    • Michael Boyd

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

The judges were dicks I’ve seen less depth get white lights

    • Aaron Menher

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

@M. C. He probably just doesnt have as much ankle and hip mobility . I tend to do the same. I hit a bit lower in depth but my knees still tend to over track a bit. He may just need to fix his mobility a bit

    • Michael Dooley

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

@a pet rock you could be correct…maybe hip flexibility is an issue…just an observation….

  64. Gilles Verbinnen

    August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

my goal is to get a total the same as his squat and dead combined, would be a pretty impressive total for a 83kg lifter

    • Loose Goose

      August 13, 2019 at 4:35 pm

I’m getting 1200lb total by next month, and I’m ALREADY proud of that LMFAO

@Loose Goose of course he’s overrated. At 21 years old he blew Dan Green out of the water at a time everyone thought Dan was a demi-god.

      900lb squat
675 touch and go with wraps bench
      900lb dead
      440lb ohp
      515lb seated ohp
      446lb clean and log press
all at 275lb bw or less. Yes…overrated
